About Us






The Childrens Garden School was established with seven children in  in 1937  by  Dr. V.N.Sharma and Mrs. Ellen Sharma. With innovative educational methods combined with social welfare schemes for underprivileged children, we now have a family of around 3000, in our city schools and sister rural ventures.   Read more about the history of our schools (pdf 11 MB).

Since 1937 we provide:


Free and subsidized education, food, clothing and accommodation to underprivileged children and free noon-meal schemes.


Inclusive education programs for physically and mentally challenged city and village children, with in-house facilities for speech therapy, and other specialized needs for our ''special children' .


Creche and Day care centres in the city and village schools for working parents/guardians, with free and subsidised facilities for poor children.


Teacher's training programs for pre-primary and primary education and for our inclusive/integrated education plans.


In-house medical facilities for all children, facilities for visiting medical practioners for general health and tie-ups with local hospitals/doctors for urgent care.


Dairy, agricultural farm for production of rice, vegetables, cereals, fruit and milk for the children.


Sustainable development schemes in our village schools and associated farm lands.


Vocational training programs to teach children life skills.


Financial support for higher education and aid for the marriage of poor girls.


Women's welfare programs for destitute women, widows and village women.


Support for homeless retired teachers and staff members.

We also run creches for babies from the age of 3 months onwards in Mylapore and at Sholinganallore. We have Kindergarten Teachers' training programs and training programs for special helpers in our inclusive education programs.
